Eden Welcomes new Girls Soccer Assistant Coach!!

Elsewhere in Eden sports, the Girls’ Varsity soccer team saw a new addition to the coaching staff with Alex Davis.  Davis, who teaches 8th and 10th grade English, was one of the many new teachers hired at Eden this year.  Originally from South Florida, she attended Westminster Academy from preschool to highschool.  Her high school soccer team won their section two out of the four years she played.  She later attended Gordon College, which is near Boston, Massachusetts, where she continued playing soccer while also competing on the swim team.

When initially being interviewed for her teaching position, Coach Davis was inquired about potentially getting involved with the girls’ soccer team, which was an opportunity that greatly thrilled her. “This was very exciting to me as I have coached at other schools before and it is something I love doing! It is a great way to get involved and connected fast. It also gives the opportunity to get to know some of my students better!”

The season has been a little tough for the Varsity Girls so far this year, but that hasn’t deterred the team from continuing to work hard.  Coach Davis has loved seeing the build up character and life lessons her players have gone through and learned from their obstacles.  “We have seen the girls push through and never give up in games despite the scores. They keep their focus and implement skills that we work on in practice. They continue to encourage each other, put in the time, work hard and have fun.”

As previously mentioned, Coach Davis is a new teacher at Eden this year.  But for her, teaching is done in the classroom and on the field, two opportunities that she uses to expand the Kingdom of God.  “I am so thankful for the chance to be used by Him!  It is really cool to get to see multiple sides of students in the classroom and on the field. I am all about building relationships and coaching lends itself for many of those relationship building experiences that I may not get in the classroom.”

Coach Davis isn’t alone in leading the girls’ soccer team, as she is the assistant coach to Coach Laird, who has headed up the the Girls’ Varsity team for several years.  “I am really enjoying learning from Coach Laird and working with him as he knows a lot about the game of soccer and team dynamics.”  The two coaches were able to connect quickly through their shared history of helping out at Ligonier Camp and Conference Center, which Coach Laird actually knew Coach Davis’ dad from.
